Aozora Meikyuu (PC): A Beautiful Trainwreck (Detailed Review)

Aozora Meikyuu | Title screen

Aozora Meikyuu is a short and brief ecchi visual novel by developer Yume Creations, a team name that I’m not sure exists because Dream Creations was taken by a rhinestone trimming company or if the devs were just total weebs. One can definitely get the impression that it is the latter since Yume Creation’s other games are also short ecchi visual novels with anime girls.  I want to make it clear I have nothing against anime tiddies and actually kinda liked Aozora Meikyuu, but it’s not a good game.

Aozora Meikyuu, which means “Blue Sky” in Japanese and leaves me once again unsure if the name was left in Japanese to avoid confusion with the similarly titled visual novel “Always the Same Blue Sky” that I also reviewed or if the devs are just total nerds, is something that I enjoyed in a “so bad its good” kind of way. More specifically, it is a poorly written and overall stupid mess, but it also has a unique charm that appeals to me as an otaku turned feminazi. Read more

Hyperdimension Neptunia (PS3): Not the Best, Not the Worst, but Definitely One of the Most Interesting (Detailed Review)

Hyperdimension Neptunia | Limited Edition Box Art

The first Hyperdimension Neptunia was definitely an interesting game. Technically the entire series is an interesting subject when it comes to games but the first game is especially so. Despite receiving mostly poor reviews from critics and a lot of gamers themselves, its unique premise and ideas helped it put Idea Factory on the map. Shortly after its release, demand was so high that prices for a new copy of the game that it went for up to $120 new on Amazon. I remember when I first found out about this game, I was incredibly fascinated by it due to its premise alone. I have looked up as much as I could about the game and was almost decided to get the game used for $80 despite it looking far from a well designed game. There were easily a lot of noticeable issues with gameplay and presentation, but its personality was so intriguing that I wanted to play it anyway. In fact, I was so interested in the game that It was what prompted me to get a PS3.

Amazing VGM: Tranquility (Sakura Spirit)

Sakura Spirit | kimonos

I’ve made my opinion on Sakura Spirit pretty clear in the past; I don’t like it. As much as I exaggerate my own sexual deviancy for comedic effect… you know where this is going. Having nice… scenery… can only get you so far if you are vapid and uninspired. But enough about Katy Perry!

No that’s not the song, that’s just an attempt to convey a sound effect even though that shit does not work in text. Thankfully there are no air horns in Sakura Spirits OST as the game’s music as actually pretty good… Read more

Senran Kagura Burst (3DS): Like the Shinobi Itself, you Cannot Always See Everything There is to Know About Senran Kagura at First Glance

Senran Kagura Burst | Uk Box

To start things off, I will say that I did not have much to expect going into Senran Kagura Burst. In fact, I do not even really remember what prompted me to buy it. I do enjoy a lot of the lesser known niche titles and I probably just decided to support this one due to no one else bothering, but normally I tend to prefer JRPGs and Visual Novels as opposed to action games. That being said, Senran Kagura Burst is absolutely superb. Senran Kagura is a game that at first looks like a rather simplistic Beat-em- up with a silly fan-service driven plot, and technically it still is. It should be known however, that Senran Kagura Burst is more then it appears.

What seals the deal for Senran Kagura Burst is the fact that it is actually two great games instead of just one. One of the two separate storylines you choose at the start of the game is actually the entirety of the first Senran Kagura game, while the second storyline is an all new adventure. Senran Kagura Skirting Shadows alone would have been worth the thirty dollar price tag in terms of both quality and content, but the fact that you have a whole other game of even higher quality is what really brings this package up. While I probably would be exaggerating if I said that the total package was worth sixty dollars, I still would have felt as though I got my money’s worth if I paid that much. Read more

Criminal Girls: Invite Only (PSP/Vita/PC) – A Hell of a Lot of Wasted Potential (Detailed Review)

Criminal Girls | title image

Well I finally got around to linking the last of my game reviews from Oprainfall. Surprisingly, I did not care for this game. I actually had fairly high expectations for it given that I am a fan of ecchi titles like Hyperdimension Neptunia and Senran Kagura, but this one just didn’t grab me. Well to be fair, it DID grab me eventually… during the second to last area of the game. The character backstories were strongly emotional and engaging, it is just s shame that the game tells you next to NOTHING about these characters prior and leaves you little to get invested in. Most of my disappointment came from its premise though and how it was executed, as I do go over in the review.

Keijo!!!!!!!! Episode 5: The Day My Butt Went Psycho

Note: This was originally put up as a Deviantart journal entry on November 5th of 2016, in order to explain references to events that were relevant at the time.

This commentary contains spoilers for Keijo!!!!!!!! episode 5.

Episode 5 huh? We are close to halfway through the first season already. Time moves so fast, yet also so slow. Either way it still feels weird that this is the only series I have been keeping up with despite the fact that there are likely better ones. Either way I may do something with some of those ones but for now we have our fanservicey sports series.

The last episode ended when all the less important team members that aren’t Nozomi had their matches and won, except for Kazane who lost due to titty hypnosis. This time, however, we finally get to see Nozomi in her first real match since episode 1, and she is up against Kotone Fujisake. Nozomi is just coming off from having trained with the UTB, and she feels much lighter having ditched the suit and likely has her skills increase tenfold by hyperbolic time training logic, and Kotone’s mother was a prize queen and her sister already has a professional career. As a result, Kotone is basically very skilled by default. Also she’s thinking about yaoi all the time.

Steam Greenlight Landfill: Sakura Spirit

Sakura Spirit | Main Menu

Sakura Spirit was a game that, at first, looks like it would appeal to me. The reason for this is that just about any fanservicey anime game is a natural curiosity for me. What can I say; I’m a girl that knows what she likes. Unfortunately that was not the case with Sakura Spirit as it turned out to be nothing other than a boring tease.

The key problem with Sakura Spirit is that it has nothing going for it other than sexy women in compromising poses, and that simply is not enough to keep one’s attention if the rest of the game is flat out boring. You can experience just about everything there is to Sakura Spirit just through Google image search.

Keijo!!!!!!!! Episode 4: The Battles Begin

Note: This was originally put up as a Deviantart journal entry on October 28th of 2016, in order to explain references to events that were relevant at the time.

This commentary contains spoilers for Keijo!!!!!!!! episode 4.

Keijo is a pretty strange series to say the least, and not even due to its premise either. What is instead strange about Keijo is the way how it plays this premise straight… yet still manages to make it work. Granted it is hardly a serious series in any sense, but the fact that it isn’t a straight up comedy is what defies expectations. Keijo manages to be entertaining more so based upon the sheer amount of thought put into the fictional sport itself and how individual players approach it.

This is something that was excellently illustrated in this week’s episode. The previous episode ended on a cliffhanger taking place before the class change match. In this episode, we get to finally see some actual matches for the first time since episode 1, starting with the match between Sayaka and Rin.

Rant: Heatstreet claims Keijo is Child Porn

Heatstreet | Keijo

Note: This rant was originally posted on October 25th of 2016, just to explain any comparisons to events occurring at the time.

*Sigh* and I thought the Kotaku article was asinine.

In my first episode commentary on the anime series Keijo!!!!!!!!, I made a point about how the main factor that motivated me to watch it was Kotaku’s hit piece on it. I initially said that I didn’t even bother to read the article in question due to a sheer lack of respect. I changed that now and have read through it simply so I can confirm that yes, Heatstreet managed to make something even stupider. Oh, and also because the first thing you read in this article is a quote from Kotaku’s.

Keijo!!!!!!!! Episode 3: Determination

Keijo! | DBZ butt punches

Note: This was originally put up as a Deviantart journal entry on October 22nd of 2016, in order to explain references to events that were relevant at the time.

The following Journal entry will contain spoilers for Keijo!!!!!!!! Episode three.

Well yay me, I am actually motivated to keep writing this series. Not only that, but I am actually excited to do so that I am trying to think of if there are any other anime this season that I would like to commentate. I was initially planning on covering Yuri on Ice, but then I realized that the Yuri in the title was not the type of yuri I was thinking of so to hell with it. Now that I think about it though, I never covered the OVA for Wolf Girl and Black Prince, and Sailor Moon Crystal has had a shit ton of episodes since the last piece I did on it, so maybe i should just finish those up.

But for now, we have Keijo!!!!!!!!, with exactly eight exclamation points. The previous episode ended with a short four on one match between Nozomi’s team and their teacher Nagisa. The events of the match ended with Nozomi managing to accidentally use a special technique against Nagisa that is, in true anime fashion, far beyond what a beginner should be capable of. Of course it still doesn’t work because Nagisa dodged it and all it did was tear off her team mate’s clothes Senran Kagura style, and ended with her hurting herself and collapsing.
