Nukige Septic Tank: Slave Witch April (NSFW)

CW: Rape, pedophilia, bestiality misogyny, torture, sexual slavery. Yep, it’s one of those games! Lewd images are censored for the purpose of this review, and are not censored in-game.

I’m having trouble thinking of a way to lead into this review like I normally do, so I’m just going to get straight to the point. Slave Witch April is an utterly repugnant pile of garbage that makes my skin crawl. Since I completed it, I’ve been pondering whether or not I consider it the worst eroge I’ve ever played. I have come to the conclusion that it’s not only the worst eroge I’ve ever played, but that it’s also the worst game I’ve ever played. About a month ago, I reviewed Games&Girls, a train wreck of an ecchi title that devolved into pandering to literal Nazis in a pathetic plea for attention, only to not have the testicular fortitude to even admit it when I confronted the developers about it. Yet Slave Witch April practically has me yearning for the works of Yume Creations.

Quick Review: A Kiss for the Petals: Remembering How we Met (PC/IOS/Android)

A Kiss for the Petals: Remembering How we Met is the first game in the long running Sono Hanabira/A Kiss for the Petals series to receive an official English localization. Sono Hanabira is a series of yuri eroge that has had yearly releases from 2006 to 2016, and hasn’t had anything since then… probably because that tends to happen when you milk a series too quickly. A lot of them seem to be on the shorter side (or at least the ones I looked up on VNDB) so I guess I can at least see why they got them out so quickly. Also I’m not making any judgement on the quality of these games, it’s just… damn, over 20 installments in 10 years.

This particular installment, Remembering How we Met, is actually one of the more recent entries in the series, having come out in Japan on March 13th of 2015 and getting released in English in September of the same year. It’s also one of the few entries in the series that doesn’t have any erotic content, which is likely why it was the first to be localized. It should be noted that this game DID get a PC remake with added ero content in 2016, but that version hasn’t been localized.

Rance 5D: The Lonely Girl (PC): Amusingly Problematic (Detailed Review) (NSFW)

CW: References to rape and slavery as plot devices.

Sometimes, the games I review make me answer some unexpected questions. Given that my reviews of eroge always end up among the most viewed of my work, I knew I would be taking a look at this series eventually, and I always knew that I would have some difficulties with it. In this case, I don’t mean “difficulty” as in it being hard to play, but more so hard for me to review.

I’m sure that most of you are well aware that I’m a feminist, and that my feminist views have largely impacted how I perceive the world around me. If I’m being honest, I’m usually hesitant to bring it up with most normies because they either know next to nothing about it and thus don’t grasp the significance, or they are one of the many who have been groomed by right wingers to believe that feminism amounts to what they see on Buzzfeed or Youtube cringe compilations.

Euphoria: A Feminist Analysis – Sadistic Torture Porn, Or Brutal Allegory? (NSFW)

Disclaimer: Rather than putting up a usual content warning at the start, I’m just going to say that if you are sensitive to any strong content and will be negatively affected, then I would not advise reading this article. I briefly talked about the content of the game in my original review, but this article is about to go a lot further into detail. There will also be far more elaboration on the plot related and thematic concepts present, which really just makes everything ever more disturbing.

If you read further on and end up seriously scarred by the content, I will not be paying for your therapy bills, but I will feel very bad about it. Also, there will be spoilers for every major plot event in Euphoria.

Ever since I completed Euphoria, I have thought about it over and over. My review was over 5k words  but I still left a lot of stuff untouched. I have been considering writing more analytical pieces referring to more philosophical and abstract aspects of games rather than straight up reviews. I say this because I have the tendency to notice a lot of tiny details that most don’t. Furthermore, these types of analyses are typically reserved for more mainstream titles and not niche Japanese shit (especially in the eroge category).

I briefly mentioned in my review of Euphoria how well it portrayed a mentally ill protagonist in a way that most western games will never even attempt. The reason is likely because the Japanese are much more lax on sexuality than westerners are and are less likely to write off an entire game because it has sexual content. The truth is that Japanese eroge have significantly more attempts at being more than fap fuel than what most westerners are accustomed to. Allow me to talk for a second about why pornography has the reputation it does.

Mutiny!! (PC): All Hands on Dick! (Detailed Review) (NSFW)

When you are a game like Mutiny!!, you pretty much have people sold on the premise alone. I mean, who wouldn’t want to delve into a visual novel about a lesbian sex worker who inherits a role as a ship captain of a bunch of lesbian monster girls? Most of my expectations were met with Mutiny!! but there were some areas where it kinda fell short and I don’t feel as enthusiastic about it as i am writing this as when I initially completed it. Don’t get me wrong, this game is great, but I do feel there are some ways it could have been better. It may be difficult to explain how though.

Criticizing Mutiny!! makes me feel similar to when I need to call out a close friend of mine on something I believe they are doing wrong. There is a bit of hesitance put forward because I hold this game in quite high regard, enough that I worry about second guessing myself given my criticism pertains to so rather subtle aspects. I mean sure, there are obvious criticisms to make that only half the routes are available with the initial purchase and the rest are DLC, some of which has still not even been released, but I do admit I was kinda relieved when this game was over and that I didn’t need to redo the same 7 ship battles and puzzles just to see a few extra conversations that Grace has with her first mate.

AnnieGal Unscripted #5 “Waifu Holocaust” Steam Controversy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43n3ivrHxxo

A new video of mine about Steam being dumb and banning lewd anime games.

The TLDW version is that gamers trivialize the issue by calling it the “waifu holocaust,” and downplay the sexist, homophobic, and xenophobic implications present.

Amazing VGM: Tranquility (Sakura Spirit)

I’ve made my opinion on Sakura Spirit pretty clear in the past; I don’t like it. As much as I exaggerate my own sexual deviancy for comedic effect… you know where this is going. Having nice… scenery… can only get you so far if you are vapid and uninspired. But enough about Katy Perry!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0fihhQ8LUw

No that’s not the song, that’s just an attempt to convey a sound effect even though that shit does not work in text. Thankfully there are no air horns in Sakura Spirits OST as the game’s music as actually pretty good…

Amber Breaker (PC): The Horrific Finale of the Jewel Star Hentai Trilogy (Detailed Review) (NSFW)

TW: Grotesque rape and sexual imagery. Yes, this game is disturbing enough that I need to use red font. Reader discretion is strongly advised! Images are blurred but I’m unsure if that’s enough.

The fact that I found Ruby Striker enjoyable does somewhat surprise me given that it is pretty much has no plot other than a girl being viciously raped. Aren’t I a feminist or something? We’re kinda not supposed to like that shit. Additionally, it is not like there is any deeper meanings such as in Euphoria, so what is it that made Ruby Striker, and to a lesser extent Lapis Gunner, so enjoyable?

Well, the best way to illustrate why would be through this overdue review of the third game in the trilogy; Amber Breaker. I am not quite sure how to feel about Amber Breaker. The disclaimer at the start probably already gives away what my feelings are. This is not the first time I have covered a game with notably disturbing content. Ruby Striker was about a girl being raped, tortured, and degraded by a demonic tentacle demon in a hellish landscape, and I enjoyed this… let that sink in.

Euphoria (PC): Beyond Horror, Beyond Hentai, Beyond Art (Detailed Review) (NSFW)

Trigger Warning: Rape, violence, emotional abuse and manipulation, and various other manner of disturbing or gruesome depictions. Euphoria itself is practically one big trigger in and of itself. This game should NOT be played by any except by the most desensitized and depraved of hentai fans. By playing this game, you risk seeing some seriously scarring material that could cause severe psychological damage, and should NOT be played by anyone under 18, and even if you are above that age, proceed with EXTREME CAUTION!

Euphoria was a game that almost leaves me at a literal loss for words. In a way, it may be one of, if not, the most impressive games I have ever played, and I can at least say that it is one of my favorites. At the same time, I don’t feel as though I can recommend it, at least not to most. The reason why my reviews are often so long winded is simply because I have used my writing as a way of communicating my feelings as thoroughly as possible. The point is to paint a clear picture of not only whatever I was reviewing was like on a surface level, but also on an emotional and spiritual level. My favorite works of art are always those that speak directly to the soul and that put artistic vision before everything else. Of course, they also need to be well made but that is pretty much a given.

Amazing VGM: Madness (Euphoria)

Well, you know what month it is folks, it is now October… unless you’re reading this in the future when it isn’t October. Anyway, this is a gimmicky excuse to focus on horror or Halloweeny material, and what better way to start off with music coming from literal torture porn? What do you mean I’m going to hell?
