Site Progress and Personal Update: August 2017

To think that I have been going for three months now, or at least two and a half as I only really started about halfway into May. Anyway, there have been a few pretty big milestones that have happened throughout the month of July, and I will get to them shortly; but first there’s the article recap, not counting site updates.

TW: Mentions of misogyny and transphobia, suicide.

Amazing VGM: Spark Mandrill (Mega Man X)

TW: A brief facetious usage of the f-slur on my part.

Yeah sorry about being too much of an Earthbound/Undertale fangirl that my last three Amazing VGM entries were related to one of them in some way. As a result, this week’s is from Mega Man X; the much more hardcore and flashy spinoff of the original Mega Man series. It’s not like those old puny 8 bit games with their bleeps and bloops. It instead signifies the FUTURE with its badass head banging synthesized guitar. Now this is the shit. It’s awesome and it can in no way relate to Underta…

Mighty No. 9: Sadder than an Anime Fan on Prom Night (Detailed Review) (PS3/PS4/360/XOne/Wii U/PC)

Mighty No. 9 was a game I had absurdly low expectations for. When it came out, it was hit with several people bashing it over how disappointing it was that this was the result of a 4 million dollar Kickstarter campaign, and how this was supposed to be the spiritual successor to Mega Man. Among the complaints were the several delays the game had, the fact that the graphics were leagues below the quality set by the concept art, and its horrible marketing scheme that insulted anime fans.

The reason I decided to play Mighty No. 9 despite the poor reputation it had was because there was nothing about the actual gameplay to be noticed from these observations, and the fact that these games can often be over hated. I myself often have managed to enjoy games that were otherwise panned by critics and have been adamant defenders of them. As such, I was really hoping that I would find something to enjoy about Mighty No. 9 but that turned out not to be the case.

Standard Review: Worms 2: Armageddon/Worms Reloaded (PS3/360/PC/Ios)

Just to clear up any potential confusion, Worms: Reloaded, and Worms 2: Armageddon are the same game and just have different titles on different systems. Worms is a turn based strategy game series that dates back to 1995 with the original Worms. The original Worms was released on the PC, Mega Drive, Super Nintendo, Gameboy, Amiga, PS1, Saturn, and even the Atari Jaguar, but only the PC, PS1, and Saturn versions got a release outside Europe. Seeing as how there have been at least ten games in the Worms series released between the original game and Reloaded, that should be enough to indicate that this is NOT the second game in the series. In actuality, the game was intended as a sequel to Worms: Armageddon, the third game in the series, but they put the 2 in the wrong spot (don’t ask me how they managed to mess that up).

The Guardian Acorn Reader Interest Polls

It took a little bit for me to put together, but here it is. I have been meaning to find a way of how I can gauge reader interest in various specific areas of my content. I was initially planning on having polls be available only to patrons but I only have 2 of those at the moment. Anyway, I have decided it was easier to just put together every poll I can think of related to content and put them all in one article rather than spreading them all out. Also yes, a lot of them have a LOT of options, simply because I tend to be very thorough in regards to these things, and I would greatly appreciate it if one could vote in some of these, as I don’t want the amount of time spent going to waste. Anyway let’s begin.

Note: You can vote for as many options as you would like in each poll.

JRPG Update: 7/3/2017 -7/9/2017

I have an unfortunate announcement to make regarding the status of JRPG Update. Following this article, JRPG Update will be put on indefinite hiatus and will most likely be canceled entirely. As satisfied as I was putting these together each week, I have found that it has also become way too overwhelming to do so on a weekly basis and it has reached the point where they are interfering with my other work. Additionally, this is not a case where I can just take a break seeing as how more and more stuff builds up over time, which will just make it infinitely more time consuming when I decide to resume.

Critical Hit (PC): Doesn’t Look Like Yaoi to me (Detailed Review) (NSFW)

Critical Hit is a short eroge visual novel released in 2016 and it is the first game by developer Tsukiware. Despite the game’s short length and low budget, I found it to be quite enjoyable. I will admit that it does not live up to all of its potential, and that its short length and lack of choices make it hard to justify the $10.00 price tag, but I do feel that this game is worth playing for anyone who has a fondness for Dungeons and Dragons and for femboy hentai.

TW: The word “trap” being used to refer to femboys/mtf crossdressers, references to rape and sexual content because this is a hentai game.

Site Progress Update: July 2017

As of this posting, Guardian Acorn has now been active for its first full month after having started up halfway through May. Okay technically I had made my first post on May 6th, but I don’t feel as though I really got started until about halfway through. I must say, I am surprised I never got the idea to start my own blog earlier considering how much I have been enjoying this so far. Anyway, I will take a brief look back of what I have posted this month, and also the stuff from May for good measure.

JRPG Update: 6/25/2017-7/2/2017

Well this week’s update was hell to put together. It turns out that these pages lag horribly when there are too many embedded videos. As such, I am unable to fully edit this article and some things will be missing, such as a few pics, , links, and the updated release chart. However, I did introduce a new segment called “discoveries,” which is where I post about new games I discovered the existence of that were released his year. This has involved looking through Steam, Nutaku, DLSite, and Itch.Io (although I found nothing on the latter most because they all appear to be RPG Maker.

(Closed) Guardian Acorn July 2017 Givaway: Highschool Romance

Update: It’s over now, you were too late, although you can still claim the Lethal League code if you want.

Update: It now only costs $1.00 for a chance to win. Additionally, both of my two current patrons have declined my code for Lethal League, so I’m giving it to the first person who asks. My review can be read here.

For those who may have glossed over it in my Patreon rewards section, I am giving away a free Steam code each month to a select Patron of mine who has pledged $3.00 or more. I figure that it is hard to beat the allure of giving away free shit, you know, the Bernie Sanders method… (I’m joking, I actually voted for Bernie). So the first code being given away is for Highschool Romance, a fairly entertaining “Male MC gets put into an all girls school and needs to crossdress, which leads to pseudo lesbian antics” visual novel. Although it’s not an eroge so don’t get your hopes up there.
