So, I’ve decided to take a new approach to content creation called “actually posting shit” instead of waiting several weeks until I finish a new review, and then letting traffic die down. It seems to be working thus far, but I often can’t finish a single review in a week unless it’s real short. So, time for the first Amazing VGM I posted since April, and it’s also a two-fer.
So let’s talk about Diamond Dust Zone Act 1. I can say straight up, the only reason this track isn’t as beloved as Sonic 3’s Ice Cap zone is because most people never made it to this level as kids. For some God forsaken reason, the Genesis version of Sonic 3D Blast didn’t have a password system. For fucks sake, Sonic 3 & Knuckles & Knuckles featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series & Knuckles had an actual save system, yet Travelers Tales thought kids could make it through all these labyrinthine levels in one sitting?
But the music went so fucking hard, just listen to it. It keeps building and building in its elegance and grace, while also being fast and groovy like Sonic music should. Honestly, I think this track blows Ice Cap Zone out of the water. While Ice Cap Zone has a nice beat, but most of the melody is the same seven note scale. The part of the melody that everyone likes makes up a very small portion of the song. Diamond Dust on the other hand, starts out good, but it keeps getting better and better as it continues on.
Now for the Act 2 theme. I admittedly don’t like this as much as Act 1, but it is still pretty solid. That point 40 seconds in is probably my favorite part of it, as it perfectly captures the elegance of the Diamond Dust Zone. Everything else is nice, but doesn’t really hit the same sort of melodic harmony as Act 1. I don’t know what else to say, but it’s still a solid and well arranged track.
Anyway that should sum up these two tracks, I will see you when the next piece is up, and I am hoping to have it done before the end of the month. Also I hope everyone has a wonderful whatever Holiday they celebrate!
