So, you’re probably wondering “is 35 a typo Annie?” There’s no way you can write about that many races in such a short time span! And you’re probably right, but that’s not going to stop me, even if a bunch of these elections have already occurred by the time I complete this article. After all, how else do I explain just how much shit we have going on this cycle? There were enough elections that I probably could have increased the number to 50. There are literally some Justice Democrats challengers whose races didn’t make this list.
This really should demonstrate just how many opportunities that the left has to capitalize on this cycle. With that said, it’s time to remind people that these are exactly that “opportunities.” The fact that progressives lost most of the races in my 2022 list is not lost on me as I write this. The intention of these articles has always been to signal to any activists to draw their attention to these candidates and support them. Given the nature of things, we are never going to win them all, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t go for them all. Also just as an aside, I’m including any “blue vs blue” General Election matchups here, because if I make a “most important General Elections” list, none of them have a chance.
#35: Congressional District 13 – New York: Darializa Avila Chevalier Vs Adriano Espaillat
I’m going to take a wild guess that you all have probably heard of a man by the name of Zohran Mamdani. Current socialist Mayor of New York City, beat alleged rapist Andrew Cuomo twice, kind of a big deal. Needless to say, Mamdani’s victory has lead to numerous left wing challengers running against establishment machine candidates. So many, in fact, that there’s four Congressional races to make this list, and those four are not even all of them. Anyway, Justice Democrats has backed two New York Challengers, the first being Claire Valdez in New York’s 7th Congressional District. Claire Valdez is a badass woman, but her race didn’t make the cut because her opponent Antonio Reynoso would still be among the better Democrats in Congress if elected.
The second Justice Democrat is Darializa Avila Chevalier, a left wing organizer who is also backed by the New York DSA and Sunrise Movement. Her opponent is Adriano Espaillat, whose top donor is AIPAC and who was one of the first incumbent Democrats to endorse Andrew Cuomo’s bid for Mayor, years after he was outted for being a prolific sexual abuser. While it may be hard to imagine it these days, there was a period where it felt like Andrew Cuomo’s comeback was inevitable, and people like Adriano Espaillat were more than willing to give the middle finger to any of Cuomo’s victims, and to anyone who has experienced similar abuse. While Espaillat would later endorse Mamdani after the primary, we all remember.
#34: Lieutenant Governor – Texas: Marcos Velez Vs Vikki Goodwin
This one is going to be relatively short. I don’t have much against Vikki Goodwin policy wise. From what I’ve seen, she seems fairly progressive, and she was a 2016 Bernie supporter. This one is purely about electability. Vikki Goodwin‘s runoff opponent is steelworker Union Leader Marcos Velez, who is currently behind in the polls against Goodwin, but has gained some momentum. I will just be blunt, I think that Marcos Velez has a better shot in the General Election, and is more likely to appeal to Texas voters. Keep in mind that some polls have shown Dan Patrick to be more vulnerable than Greg Abbot. The Gubernatorial race is looking to be the less likely victory compared to the Senate race, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t go all in.
#33: California Governor – Tom Steyer Vs Xavier Becerra Vs Katie Porter
Oh deer fucking God this one is a mess! You know things are fucked when the most progressive candidate in the race is a billionaire… no I didn’t forget about Butch Ware, I just don’t consider transphobes progressive. But yes, Tom Steyer seems to have come a long way since his idiotic Presidential campaign, by which I mean he acknowledged Bernie was right and is running to the left of everyone else in this race. While I’m not the biggest fan of billionaires, I am alright with billionaire class traitors.
Unfortunately, there’s the fact that there are two Republicans in this race who continuously placing in the top of the polls, and California has a top two jungle primary. Surely the California Democratic party as a collective is unified enough to not risk splitting the vote and potentially guaranteeing a Republican Governor in the bluest state in the country right? Apparently the 22 Democratic candidates running for Governor of California didn’t get the memo. Anyway, I’m leaving this to the top three Democrats. I already mentioned my support of Steyer, so I may as well go into the other two.
Katie Porter has seen a notable fall from grace given an incident where she was verbally abusive towards a staffer, and a disastrous interview where she berates a reporter for asking her questions. However, the allegations of domestic abuse on Katie’s part against her ex husband are especially disturbing, with claims that she threw “toys, books and other objects” at him, and poured scalding hot mashed potatoes on his head. Porter also refused to let her husband have a phone, and an ex staffer has claimed that she made racist comments and ridiculed people for reporting sexual harassment and dying of Covid. I will just say outright, it’s a disgrace that Katie Porter is even still a contender in this race, and the only reason she hasn’t been forced to drop out like Eric Swalwel did is because she’s a woman.
And then there’s former HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, who absorbed most of Eric Swalwel’s support once he dropped out. His most noteworthy scandal includes the fact that as HHS Secretary, he lost track of 85,000 unaccompanied migrant children, many of which were trafficked and forced into labor. Beccara also seems to be the preferred candidate of incumbent Governor Gavin Newsom, who infamously pledged to support Single Payer healthcare and then let it die in the State Legislature. Such a thing does not make Beccara’s claim to support single payer look viable.
*Sigh* Please just make sure Steyer makes it to the general election.
#32: Congressional District 5 – Virginia: Salaam Bhatti Vs Shannon Taylor

At time of writing, Virginia redistricting just passed, meaning that Virginia Republicans are FUCKED!!! Now that we have more safe blue districts, this means more corporate stooges getting railroaded into the position This district’s designated stooge is Henrico County Commonwealth Attorney Shannon Taylor, someone whose record is so terrible that I can literally just quote her Wikipedia page instead of doing further research.
In Shannon Taylor’s campaign for Virginia Attorney General, she received $650,000 from Dominion Energy, which also gave $300,000 to her Republican opponent. As Henrico Commonwealth Attorney, she choose to pursue heavy felony charges against eight high school students over a school pranks. See if you can guess what race the students were! You know, being endorsed by former Governor Ralph Northam, who had an infamous black face scandal isn’t helping the racism allegations, not gonna lie. I suppose it’s better than being endorsed by his Lt Governor… if you know, you know. The progressive in this race is Salaam Bhatti, who thus far has the backing of Progressive Victory, Citizens Against AIPAC Corruption, and former Congressional candidate Qasim Rashid. While Bhatti has yet to attract the attention of some of the bigger progressive groups, there is still three months until the August 4th primary for that to happen.
Update: The Virginia Supreme Court Fucked this one over. While Salaam Bhatti is still running, the District is now R+3, which means that the winner needs to face Republican incumbent Rob Wittman, which makes this a much harder race. This naturally complicates things.
#32: Congressional District 6 – New York: Chuck Park Vs Grace Meng
And we’re back to New York, this time discussing one of the lesser known races. Thus far, the major players in Chuck Park’s campaign seem to glossed over this race, with nothing from Justice Democrats of the DSA. The Working Families Party decided against endorsing Chuck Park despite 94% of the Queens District voting for it. Despite this, Park has raised an impressive amount of money, and is showing impressive strength.
As for Grace Meng, she received close to $1,000,000 from the Israel lobby, has been a frequent opponent of the Iran Deal, voted for the thin blue line act, against allowing hot rotisserie chicken to be purchased by SNAP beneficiaries, to “denounce the horrors of socialism, to undermine flood insurance reform, against a cut to defense spending to fund clean energy, to declare support for ICE, and to eliminate public review of hard rock mining on federal public lands.” Anyway, Grace Meng also choose not to endorse Mamdani even after he won the primary, so this likely increases the chance of him endorsing Park.
#30: Congressional District 7 – Virginia: Elizabeth Guzman Vs Dan Helmer Vs Dorothy McAulife Vs Adel McClure Vs Saddam Salim
The Virginia Congressional Races are one of the main reasons I made this a top 35. Both of these elections have a relatively under the radar candidate running against someone with the backing the state’s former Governor. Elizabeth Guzman has lead in one poll, albeit with a fractured field and 63% unsure. Additionally, the poll does not include Dorothy McAulife, the wife of former Governor Terry McAulife, you know, the one that lost the Governorship to Glenn Youngkin.
Terry McAulife is about as establishment as establishment can get. He has had a close relationship with the Clintons, and was even Co-chair of Hillary Clinton’s 2008 Presidential Campaign. And much like Hillary herself, Terry was under investigation by the FBI over whether donations to his Gubernatorial campaign were illegal. He also said he was in favor of ending qualified immunity in the primary, and then backtracked in the general, and he backed down on protecting trans kids, saying that the decision should be left to the individual school boards. He is genuinely everything people hate about establishment Democrats. So why in the hell would we want to elect someone whose only notable trait is being his wife?
Update: Virginia SCOTUS fucked this one over, every candidate dropped out.
#31: Congressional District 3 – Pennsylvania: Chris Rabb Vs Sharif Street Vs Ala Stanford
So, we have a Justice Democrat challenger running for an open seat, you can probably guess the dynamic at play in this one. You have a progressive State rep running against an AIPAC backed candidate with tons of Israel money being dumped into their campaign. This was the exact dynamic that lead to Summer Lee’s election to Congress in 2022, which was one of the few races featured on my “most important primaries of 2022” list to go our way. This time, it is progressive Chris Rabb Vs genocide denier Ala Stanford… oh, and Shariff Street is also here, and he’s ALSO an Israel humper.
That being said, Ala Stanford at least tried to lie and say that she wasn’t taking over $500,000 in AIPAC money… and she compared calling the mass slaughter of Palestinian citizens a “genocide” to calling black people the N-word… how are these real people? In addition to Justice Democrats, Chris Rabb also has the support of the Philly DSA, the PA Working Families Party, the Sunrise Movement, and he was recently endorsed by AOC and the Philly inquirer. Prior to these endorsements, Chris Rabb was at 23% in the polls to Stanford’s 28%.
#30: Congressional District 8 – New Jersey: Mussab Ali Vs Rob Menendez
The fact that Rob Menendez is still in Congress is one of the most damning facts about our political environment. In 2022, he was railroaded into office with every major figure endorsing him before anyone else could even run, and he won mostly due to the existence of the New Jersey ballot line, which is now gone. In 2024, after the line was abolished, he won his primary with only 52% of the vote. This time, he’s being challenged by Mussab Ali, a former candidate for Jersey City Mayor.
Now, I could leave things off with “Rob Menendez’s father, former US Senator Bob Menendez, was so corrupt that he managed to get arrested and convicted in the same administration where Clarence Thomas is allowed on the Supreme Court.” Some defenders may say that Rob shouldn’t be weighed down by his father’s record (even though he only got his seat because of his father’s power and influence), but let’s look at Rob’s own record. This record includes taking $200,000 from AIPAC, signing onto a letter to threaten the University of Columbia into ending a pro Palestinian encampment, and voting against the expulsion of George Santos.
He’s also one of the founders of the Team Blue PAC, a PAC made with the sole intent of protecting corporate Dems from progressive primary challengers. It’s not like we need that money to use against Republicans NO, it’s much more important to protect the country from people who want to give us healthcare! Like father, like son.
#27: Congressional District 9 – Tennessee: Justin Pearson Vs Steve Cohen
For those that haven’t heard of Justin Pearson, you may have heard about the events that pushed him into national attention. Pearson, alongside reps Justin Jones and Gloria Johnson, got expelled from the Tennessee House of Representatives… for protesting for gun control… immediately after a mass shooting. It’s just so cartoonishly ghoulish to pull something like this, but what’s anyone going to do about it, vote Democrat? In Tennessee? Well, they did get re-instated by each of their respective local governing bodies, so all it did was raise their national profile.
Anyway, now Justin Pearson is primarying Steve Cohen, the sole Democratic Congressman from the state of Tennessee. Steve Cohen has held his US House seat for nearly 20 years, and before that, he held a State Senate seat for over 20 years, meaning this fucker has held office for more than two decades. While he has done some good things, such as standing up for gay marriage in the mid 2000s, he’s long since sold out. Cohen claims that Pearson “sometimes thinks he’s the voice of today and the future. I was that voice 35 years ago,” and I cannot imagine a bigger self own.
But to be clear, there’s a more to criticize Cohen for than being old. Such as…
– Voting to censure Rashida Tlaib for being anti-genocide.
– choosing not to show up to vote against a trans sports ban,
– voting against withdrawing troops from Pakistan,
– Voting to “express gratitude to ICE.”
– voting to undermine environmental review for data centers,
– voting for Trump’s 2019 USMCA trade deal,
– voting against the nuclear waste policy amendments act of 2017,
– Voting to roll back nuclear storage laws,
– Voting to prevent the EPA from introducing standards to protect against dangerous coal ash pollution,
– Voting to prevent the implementation of tools to limit the introduction of aquatic invasive species from ballast water,
– voting against the 2007 farm subsidy reform bill,
– voting for a Republican bill to roll back endangered species and environmental protections.
– Voting to prevent same sex spouses of immigrants from receiving the same benefits as straight spouses.
Oh, and he made 8.5 million in stock trading as a congressman.
Update: Welp, right wing redistricting fucked this district out of existence.. Son of a bitch. Anyway, this list will have an extra entry, but I’m keeping the text here because I’m not throwing this away.
#29: Congressional District 10 – New York: Brad Lander Vs Dan Goldman
And here we are with another New York race, and if Brad Lander’s fundraising numbers are any indication, probably the most likely flip. It would also be the most obvious, considering that Dan Goldman barely won his primary in 2022 due to multiple progressives splitting the vote… something that left wing candidates have most certainly learned from, and that certainly hasn’t cost us multiple races this cycle.
Dan Goldman’s victory was an even bigger slap in the face given that he had hired a Republican campaign consultant who called Maxine Waters “retarded,” said he “wouldn’t object to abortion bans after the fetus is viable” less than two months after Roe Vs Wade was overturned, that single payer health insurance is “unrealistic,” falsely claimed that he couldn’t attend pride as a federal prosecutor as an excuse for not having attended it, and that he considers it “undemocratic” to expand the Supreme Court (again, less than two months after Roe Vs Wade was overturned). All of this while he took the maximum amount of donations possible from billionaire Trump donor Stephen Ross.
Dan Goldman’s voting record in office wasn’t any better, considering he voted against removing troops from Syria, to censure Rashida Tlaib for being anti-genocide, and to manufacture consent for the invasion of Iran by declaring Iran the “largest state sponsor of terrorism.” What all but ensured Goldman’s defeat, however, was his refusal to endorse Zohran Mamdani for Mayor, even after he won the primary. This is to be expected considering that Dan Goldman has taken over half a million in contributions from the Israel lobby.
Polls have already given challenger Brad Lander a substantial lead, with him polling 18 points ahead of Goldman… those are NOT the numbers you want to have as an incumbent.
#28: Congressional District 13 – Michigan: Donovan McKinney Vs Shri Thanedar Vs Mary Waters
Okay, I must admit, I was not fully aware of the records of each incumbent when I ordered this list, and I’ve just been lucky that I haven’t had to move a race up from the initial spot due to a specific candidate being much worse than I thought. The reason for this is that… every corporate Dem I’ve looked into has been worse than I thought, but has somehow been worse than the last. Shri Thanedar is weird because there’s definitely worse Democrats when it comes to voting records.
That being said, he has voted to block California from implementing better pollution standards for cars, to block trans healthcare to the children of military service members, to express gratitude to ICE, and to declare Iran the “biggest state sponsor of terrorism” in an attempt to manufacture consent for inevitable regime change civilian slaughter. I don’t even think it’s necessary to point out that Thanedar is an AIPAC puppet, but I WILL point out that he was anti Israel until AIPAC bribed him with a trip to Israel… I am not joking. He then renounced his former DSA membership because they didn’t CUNDEM HUMMAS, although they already disavowed him because he accompanied far right Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a visit to the US.
Thanedar previously tried running for Governor of Michigan, but he lost the primary because numerous scandals came out about his old businesses, the most noteworthy of which was the fact that a lab from one of his businesses left 118 dogs and 55 monkeys behind after it was abandoned, where they were deprived of food and water until animal groups rescued them. What’s also included, however, is the fact that Thanedar was alleged to have refused to report a customer who spiked a male herbal supplement with Viagra to the feds. There’s also less exciting scandals such as a toxic work environment, being sued over allegedly misrepresenting his companies finances, and spending public funds on campaign ads, but none of this really sticks out as much as the Viagra incident.
Anyway, he has a Justice Democrats endorsed primary challenger named Donovan McKinney, who supports good things instead of… this fucking shit. God what the fuck did I just read! Oh, and Mary Waters decided to enter the race and risk splitting the vote. Anyway, Mary Waters plead guilty to bribery and filing false tax returns.
#27: Congressional District 12 – New Jersey: Adam Hamawy Vs Sue Altman
Earlier this year, progressive Analilia Mejia was elected to Congress in a special election, despite her minuscule fundraising numbers and polling. Now, it’s time to make lighting strike twice. Justice Democrats has endorsed Adam Hamawy, a surgeon who has worked to save lives in both Iraq and Gaza. To quote his campaign video, “After the headlines, someone has to put bodies back together.” Anyway, Hamawy’s main opponent is Sue Altman, who claimed that Hamawy is cheerleading the deaths of Israeli children, because he’s opposed to funding for Israel’s iron dome.
I generally can maintain a strong temperament with this type of shit, but this one quip genuinely boils my blood in an almost instantaneous fashion. To accuses someone who literally operated on children pulled from the wreckage in Gaza, of wanting dead children, is especially ghoulish. What’s so ugly about this claim is the amount of projection that is buried within it. When it comes to most AIPAC stooges, there’s at least the assumption of ignorance, but for someone to bring up dead children… to someone who has most likely seen dead children… it’s one of the most sick and depraved things I’ve ever seen someone say, and this is coming from someone who just came off of outing a pedophile who pushed two kids to suicide.
Apparently Sue Altman has apologized for these remarks, and you better fucking apologize when you say something like that. It doesn’t change the fact that she said them, and that many of her supporters full throatily endorse them. Anyway, Sue Altman apparently supports the war with Iran, because of course she does. To think this woman was seen as progressive at one point. Talk about throwing away all credibility and good will.
#26: Congressional District 11 – Michigan: Aisha Farooqi Vs Jeremy Moss

There are some elections that I’ve included in hopes of, and to hopefully facilitate, further attention to. I’ve decided to emphasize primaries happening specifically in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin given that they’ve each gone to Trump twice thus far, which makes it especially important to build up a progressive base considering the followings that left wing progressives generate. Additionally, I’m kind of over the whole “progressives can’t win competitive races” narrative. Yeah, sure Karen, candidates who just so happen to support policies that are overwhelmingly popular with the vast majority of the electorate are bound to lose!
In all honesty, the “progressives can’t win competitive races” shit misunderstands that median voters are more so put off by certain vibes rather than policies. Yeah, they’ll be put off by excessive focus on identity politics, bashing cops, or quoting Lenin, but establishment hacks want you to conflate that with shit like giving people healthcare or opposing genocide or regime change wars. We just need for Democrats to learn how to market it, which seems to finally be happening with candidates like James Talarico, Graham Platner, and Bob Brooks.
Anyway, Michigan’s 11th District isn’t a swing district, it’s D+ nine, which sadly hasn’t stopped it from being inhabited by corporate Zionist ghoul Haley Stevens, though I’ll be talking about her record later. Anyway, she retired to run for US Senate, and entire Michigan Democratic establishment, including the current and a former Governor, have lined up to railroad state Senator Jeremy Moss into the position. As expected, he’s an AIPAC ghoul, and he joined in on the smear campaign against Rashida Tlaib that was launched response to her calling out Attorney General Dana Nessel for sending the FBI to raid the homes of student protesters. And he also voted to repeal a ban on Ticket scalping.
Anyway, he has a progressive opponent named Aisha Farooqi, who has secured a handful of noteworthy endorsements despite the the obvious attempt to railroad Jeremy Moss into the seat. Her most noteworthy endorsements include the Michigan Progressive Caucus, CAIR Action Michigan, the Future Urbanist Club, EMGAGE Action, and Citizens Against AIPAC Corruption. The Primary is not until August 4th, so there is time for her to build up a stronger campaign.
#25: Congressional District 8 – Massachusetts: Patrick Roath Vs Stephen Lynch
Jesus fucking Christ I’m only on number 25? Why did I think that making a top 35 list was a good idea? Anyway, I get to talk about Stephen Lynch now, I fucking LOVE politics! Anyway, Stephen Lynch got his start in politics by primarying someone due to them being pro gay and pro abortion. As part of the Massachusetts House, Lynch advocated for an amendment that would allow people to use the gay panic defense. I just need you all to know, this was in 2001 when he did this, meaning this DEMOCRAT was 46 when he was advocating for protections for people who commit violent crimes against gay people. How come none of the fuckers bitching about Platner’s tattoo seem to care about this guy?
Also, he’s racist to, he advocated against a hate crime bill that would have made racially charged language a felony. Yeah, of course, black people can’t get protections unless they hate gay people I guess. No, I don’t care that he “changed his mind” when it became politically convenient for him to do so. He’s a fucking ghoul. Anyway, now for the long list of his shitty votes and actions, these include…
– Voting for the Patriot Act.
– Voting for the Iraq War.
– Voting for the Hyde Amendment.
– Voting against Obamacare.
– Voting against the removal of troops from Pakistan.
– Voting for the anti immigrant Kate’s Law.
– Voting for the Thin Blue Line Act.
– Voting to withhold healthcare through the ACA until citizenship can be verified, regardless of how long it takes.
– Voting to expand qualified immunity for police officers.
– Voted in favor of a resolution declaring support for ICE.
– Voted to slash funding for clean energy programs.
– Voted to terminate the Independent Payment Advisory Board.
– Voted for the anti immigrant Laken Riley Act.
– Voted to “denounce the horrors of socialism.”
– Voted to honor the life of Charlie Kirk.
Lynch is being challenged by progressive Patrick Roath, whose most noteworthy endorsements include former Governor Deval Patrick, and David Hogg’s PAC Leaders We Deserve.
#24: Governor – Wisconsin: Francesca Hong Vs Mandela Barnes Vs Sara Rodriguez
Okay, so you might be wondering, why in the name of fuck is the Wisconsin Gubernatorial Race so low on this list? Much less one where we have a DSA endorsed candidate leading in the polls against the current Lt Governor AND a former Lt Governor and US Senate nominee? The short version is because Mandela Barnes is fairly progressive by Democratic establishment standards, so it’s basically another Valdez vs Reynoso situation, while many of these races have someone truly awful in them. But on the other hand, we may have a DSA endorsed Governor in a swing state that Trump won in 2016 and 2024, just imagine what that would mean for the progressive movement as a whole!
Some of Barnes’s failings compared to Hong include his waffling on Israel and acceptance of JStreet money, as well as that fact that Hong condemned Trump’s decision to kidnap Maduro, while Barnes said nothing about it. Sara Rodriguez is also running, and she’s placed in third in the polls. She voted to require the national anthem to be played at sporting events. I suppose there’s worse things she could have voted for but uhhh…. why?
Anyway, this race makes this list because, as I already said, building up the progressive movement in states like Wisconsin is important to counteract the rise of fascism. Oh, and before anyone brings up Barnes’s 2022 Senate loss as an “electability” argument, Russ Feingold ran as a centrist in 2016 and lost by a much wider margin than Barnes. Feingold also performed better in his 2010 race when he was still a progressive. As I said, I’m DONE with “electability” hand wringing.
#23: Congressional District 6 – Massachusetts: Beth Andres-Beck Vs Dan Koh Vs Tram Nguyen Vs Jamie Belsito Vs John Beccia
So, there’s two new entries I can write about due to the Virginia SCOTUS fucking up the two I had planned. I’ve been deciding between whether or not to go with one of the three Justice Democrats races that didn’t originally make it, but I also think it’s important to promote some of the potential sleeper races that, if they happened right now, the progressive would lose in a landslide. I’m not under the delusion that my writing is seen by a lot of people, but I would imagine that activists for progressive candidates and politics nerds would be the most likely people to read this. So what I’m say is, we need ya’ll to help elect a trans man to the District of Seth Moulton, aka Mr “It’s trans people’s fault Trump won, also I let 5 year old boy die in Iraq.” There will be more on him later btw.
Beth Andres-Beck has currently raised close to $140,000, and has self funded about $100,000, which gives him a bit more than a lot of progressives, but he also has only about $10,000 on hand. Unfortunately, his main opponent Dan Koh, has raised $3,000,000, over 92% of which comes from contributions larger than $200. His largest contributor is, of course, Blackstone. Dan Koh’s issue’s page includes “abolishing Trump’s ICE,” which means NOT abolishing ICE. It also includes “a Medicare for All system that enrolls all Americans by default and preserves private insurance if desired,” which isn’t Medicare for All.
Thus far, the only notable group to endorse Beth Andres-Beck is Progressive Victory, hopefully more will follow. The primary is on September 1st, so there’s still three and half months to get them.
#22: Congressional District 15 – New York: Michael Blake Vs Ritchie Torres
So, the time has finally arrived to tear Ritchie Torres a new one. I know that Congress has no shortage of bloodthirsty Zionist freaks, but Ritchie Torres is one of the few that can compete with John Fetterman for the title of most monstrous and ghoulish Democratic member of Congress. But before we discuss that, I’ll let you know that he voted to “express gratitude to ICE,” in favor of the anti immigrant Laken Riley Act, to manufacture consent for the war on Iran, to denounce the horrors of socialism, and to censure Rashida Tlaib for being anti-genocide. Ritchie Torres has also defended Elon Musk as recently as 2024, stating that “the country thrives on intrepid inventors like Elon Musk.”
Anyway, about his ghoulishness on Israel, we can start with the fact that he has taken almost $2,00,000 from the Israel lobby, making him the 12th biggest recipient of Israel lobby contributions in the US House… God the fact that he’s not in the top ten. He’s also so much of a Zionist fanatic that he told Adam Freidland, a Jew who has lived in Israel, that he was justifying antisemitism.
But it’s not even enough for Ritchie Torres to be a genocide profiteer. Torres has also doxxed a Queen’s college professor over her pro Palestinian beliefs, including her name, her email, and details about her schedule, while also referring to her as a “propagandist pretending to be a professor,” while he sicks his audience on her. Torres would also later send the capitol police after a student protester who criticized him in a Tiktok, which lead to said student getting expelled from Ohio State University.
If this behavior sounds familiar to you, it’s because this is strikingly similar behavior utilized by far right figures such as Chaya Raichik or JK Rowling, who will utilize their large audiences and influences to intimidate their critics and upend their lives in an attempt to silence left wing views. This is the type of shit that would result in censure or expulsion from congress in a functioning legislature, but we don’t have that here.
Anyway, Torres is being primaried by former Mayoral candidate Michael Blake, and I fucking hope Mamdani endorses him, especially since Torres was also a Cuomo supporter who didn’t endorse Mamdani in the general.
#21: Congressional District 34 – California: Angela Gonzales-Torres Vs Jimmy Gomez
Some people discussed on this list are horrible because they push for conservative policies that harm American citizens. Others may have comparatively better voting records, but are disgusting people who don’t deserve to be near power. Jimmy Gomez is an example of the latter, but it’s worth noting that he’s accepted even more contributions from the Israel lobby than Ritchie Torres, with the total contributions adding up to $2,611,650. Most of this was spent to prevent his left wing challenger David Kim from beating him in 2024 This is perhaps why he didn’t sign onto early progressive resolutions to push for a Ceasefire despite him having called for one.
That all being said, the REAL reason this election makes it this high up is Jimmy Gomez’s proximity to disgraced former Congressman and sexual predator Eric Swalwell. Jimmy Gomez was a member of Eric Swalwell’s “cool kids clique” alongside then Congressman Ruben Gallego, a trio known for their heavy drinking and philandering. While Gomez has yet to face any direct allegations of sexual abuse or misconduct, Swalwell’s allegations did draw attention to the fact that Gomez was seen making out with a much younger Congressional aide to a different Democrat. Note that Gomez was also the campaign chair for Swalwell’s Gubernatorial campaign.
So uhh, it would be easy for me to just leave this at “the vibes are creepy” and call it a day, but there will inevitably be some people who claim that this was between two consenting adults, and that the aide was in her 30s. So I’ll put it this way. Yes, there is no evidence that Jimmy Gomez is engaging in criminal or abusive sexual behavior, he just happens to look like and act like someone who reminds a lot of women of abusive sex pests they’ve met. And being a member of Congress gives Gomez a lot of power and influence over younger women, who have less means of legal recourse, and less money to defend themselves from the inevitable defamation suits that will follow in an attempt to silence them.
Is it possible that Gomez genuinely did not know that Eric Swalwell was a creep despite being friends with him and spending a lot of time with him drinking and partying? I guess, but Occam’s Razor says it’s much more likely that he’s a creep to.
#20: Congressional District 1 – Missouri: Cori Bush Vs Wesley Bell
It’s a strong sign of the progressive movement’s strength to compare 2024 to now. Raquel Terán, Angelica Dueñas, David Kim, Jen Perelman, Kina Collins, Qasim Rashid, John Morse, Ravi Bhalla, Susheela Jayapal, Jamie McLeod Skinner, Elizabeth Guzman, they all got destroyed, most of them as a result of AIPAC money. Some of them went into their race polling way ahead of their opponents until they got carpet bombed by AIPAC spending. Among all of this, was the blitz of spending used to unseat Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush, both of which broke records for spending in House primaries. The two highest recipients of Israel lobby contributions are the two congressman that AIPAC bought to replace them, George Latimer ($19,155,439) and Wesley Bell ($13,135,269).
Latimer’s Victory was sweeping, having won with 58.6% of the vote against Bowman. The district was drawn specifically to be as Israel friendly and antithetical to Bowman as possible, and because of this, Bowman even struggled in his 2022 primary, managing only 54.4%. Because of this, Bowman has opted against a rematch against Latimer, and it would be difficult for any other DSA aligned candidates as well. Wesley Bell, on the other hand, won with 51.1% of the vote to Cori Bush’s 45.6% (the rest going to two no name candidates), a much closer margin considering the vast amounts of spending against Bush, and much easier for Bush to make up the distance between.
Anyway, Wesley Bell voted to express gratitude to ICE, has spent $35,000 in Campaign Cash to Buy His Friend’s Dodge Durango, was sued for discrimination against women and older staffers, and was accused of sleeping with a subordinate. Oh gee, I wonder if he was part of Swalwell’s club to? On top of all this, Bell is alleged to have put forth a policy to not prosecute child support payments as St Louis County Prosecutor because his top staffer owed nearly nearly $19,000 in payments. He also managed the campaign of a Republican, anti-choice candidate, has raised a ton of money from Republican donors, and has even donated to MO Republican House Speakers campaign. Oh, and one of his last actions before taking Cori Bush’s seat was to charge protestors on the 10th Anniversary of Michael Brown’s killing.
The plus side is that polls seem to have the two tied, and the national environment is a lot more favorable to Cori Bush this time.
#19: Congressional District 20 – Florida: Elijah Manley Vs Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick Vs Dale Holness (and possibly Vs Debbie Wasserman-Schultz)
While this race was originally in consideration for this list, what pushed it this high up is the rumors of Debbie Wasserman Schultz deciding to run here following Florida redistricting. But I supposed I should have a go at Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick. Back in 2021, my naive ass thought she would be a progressive just because she ran on progressive policies. Yeah, the fact that Cherfilus-McCormick had to resign due to the fact that she’s being investigated for stealing $5 million in disaster relief funds, which she used for her congressional campaign in 2021. Due to her crimes, she faces up to 53 years and prison and millions of dollars in fines. Despite this, she is deciding to run for re-election despite the fact that she already resigned. Polls have consistently put Elijah Manley ahead of her. Oh, and the runner up in the 2021 special election, Dale Holness is also running. His daughter plead guilty to fraud involving Covid relief funds.
As for Debbie Wasserman Schultz, there is a possibility that she could run in Congressional District 25 against Jared Moskowitz (and his DSA primary challenger Oliver Larkin), and that would be the ideal option, but always bet on corruption, and there is no woman who knows corruption better than Debbie Wasserman Schultz… except for maybe Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick.
Some of you may recall that Debbie Wasserman Schultz washead of the DNC during the 2016 election, and that she rigged the primary against Bernie Sanders. Following her resignation from the DNC during the same cycle, she faced a primary challenge from Tim Canova, who manged 43% against her. Considering that the paper ballots were ruled to be illegally disposed of, following the primary, it’s entirely likely that there was ratfucking. When she was challenged by Jen Perelman in 2020, she suspiciously hosted an event with the election supervisor the day before her primary. During the same primary, she physically assaulted a 16 year old climate activist named Martina Velasquez who was volunteering for the Perelman campaign. Following the incident, Perelman received an email reading “Tell your little spic cunt volunteer that she opened a nasty can of worms that she can’t close. Bring the rope.”
Debbie Wasserman Schultz faced almost no consequences for her actions, and I haven’t even covered her voting record, which includes voting against cutting the pentagon budget by 10% during the pandemic, to censure Rashida Tlaib, to express gratitude to ICE, to re-authorize warrentless surveillance powers for Trump, and to honor the life of Charlie Kirk. All of this is why I have little doubts that she, as a white woman, will try to steal a majority black district, while at the same time condemning the Republicans for plunging the country back into the Jim Crow era.
Also she’s a deranged Zionist.
#18: Congressional District 1 – Utah: Nate Blouin Vs Ben McAdams Vs Liben Mohamed
Conventional wisdom would suggest that moderate Democrats like Ben McAdams exist as a compromise candidate meant to win in red leaning areas that normal Democrats can’t appeal to. This was the logic behind his candidacy in Utah’s 4th Congressional District back in 2018. If that’s the case, then WHY IN THE NAME OF FUCK is he running in a safe blue district? The entire premise of the modern Democratic party falls apart with this alone, and it really demonstrates how establishment Democrats REALLY view things; that McAdams gets the seat because it’s “his turn.” What’s that? Let the voters decide? What are we, some kind of Democracy? Get the fuck out of here!
McAdams’s track record includes voting against removing troops from Iran, voting against cutting out bloated Military Budget in the middle of the pandemic, voting against expanding labor protections, and voting against a minimum wage increase! He’s also on recording as having supported the Hyde Amendment, opposing Medicare for All, criticizing the Equality Act for not being considerate enough of “religious liberty,” criticizing Nancy Pelosi for tearing up a copy of Trump’s State of the Union speech, and endorsing Michael “Put them up against the walls, men in dresses, ban the big gulps!” Bloomberg for President in 2020.
Of course, Ben McAdams is claiming to have conveniently changed his mind, meaning he has no real principals and is little more than a corporate shell, or he’s lying to get elected. You know, none of this would be a problem if he ran in one of the redder districts. Wasn’t the entire reason he didn’t run in 2022 because his district was gerrymandered to fuck him over? Doesn’t that change with this new map? Oh, but if you do that, you have to put in the effort to get re-elected!
Anyway, there’s a progressive named Nate Blouin who is also running in this district, and thus far, he’s been in second place in the polls. There’s another progressive named Liben Mohamed also running, because we haven’t lost enough races due to progressive vote splitting yet!
#17: Congressional District 11 – California: Saikat Chakrabarti Vs Scott Wiener Vs Connie Chan
Let me just go ahead and say that the “big revelation” that’s supposed to tank Saikat Chakrabarti’s campaign… is that he was fired because he kept picking fights with corporate blue dogs when he was AOC’s chief of staff. If anything, this is all the more reason we need to elect him. For those that are not in the know, Saikat Chakrabarti is AOC’s former chief of staff, and is also one of the co-founders of Justice Democrats. Moreover, this campaign is for Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat, since she is retiring this year. For once, it is the quality of the candidate that puts them this high, rather than the shittiness of the corporate Dem, though that’s not to say that Scott Weiner is doesn’t deliver on that. Oh, and Connie Chan is also good, but she’s behind Chakrabarti in the polls. Whichever one of them makes it to the General.
Anyway, similarly to that of Ritchie Torres, Scott Wiener has a horrifying history of cyberstalking and doxxing critics of Israel on the basis of “combating antisemitism.” You can read the testimony of one of his victims, Rupa Marya, here. She’s described this better than I ever could.
#16: Congressional District 3 – Nevada: James Lally Vs Susie Lee
Gonna be real with you all, writing this is fucking exhausting, and I’m feeling myself starting to grow numb. It isn’t that Susie Lee is especially horrible or anything, it’s that she isn’t unique by Democratic standards, I included her race this high up on the list because this notion that that it’s okay to throw immigrants and trans people under the bus when you are in a light blue district needs to fucking die. Nevada has three Democratic congressmen who all fit this mold, and Susie Lee is the worst of the three.
Susie Lee is tied for the 17th lowest scorecard ranking among house Democrats for last year, has taken $734,913 from the Israel lobby, voted to express gratitude for ICE and for the Laken Riley act, to honor the life of Charlie Kirk, to condemn the Biden administration for not deporting enough immigrants, to censure Rashida Tlaib for being anti genocide, to manufacture consent for the war in Iran, to block an amendment that would have prevented transfers of grenade launchers and armed drones to local police, to repeal the prohibition on hiring officers with a history of misconduct in DC, to re-authorize warrant-less surveillance powers for Trump, and to grant the Trump administration the power to shut down nonprofits without evidence of wrongdoing. She also profits off of insider trading, but I’m sure that’s just to win over swing voters.
Susie Lee has a primary opponent named James Lally, who has raised over $800,000 thus far, which is impressive considering that he hasn’t secured many notable endorsements aside from Track AIPAC and Nevada outreach… yeah, most of it is self funded, but that still leaves about $200,000 from individual contributions, which is pretty solid.
#15: Congressional District 2 – New Hampshire: Heath Howard Vs Stefany Shaheen Vs Maura Sullivan
This race has a similar dynamic to the last one, in that it’s a light blue district that has favored corporate friendly Democratic incumbents, and an actual progressive is trying to break that trend. As much as I wish that Karishma Manzur or Paige Beauchemin had a chance, Heath Howard is the only one that does. Howard has managed an impressive second place in the most recent poll, with him at 10%, despite having only raised little over $30,000. Unfortunately, the first place candidate is nepo baby Stefany Shaheen, whose claim to fame is being the over developed cum shot that was birthed by now outgoing US Senator Jeanne Shaheen. Considering that Jeanne Shaheen has voted against $15 minimum wage, in favor of the Laken Riley Act, and to confirm Kristi Noem, this is not a good thing.
Oh, and Jeanne Shaheen is also one of the architects behind the disastrous Shutdown deal from last year. Granted, Stefany was apparently displeased with this decision, but as I said before, if you are going to rely on your parent’s connects to get into office, you also get to own their record. Jeanne Shaheen has accepted 533,077 from the Israel lobby, and one of Stafany’s donors is a former AIPAC board member. Anyway, Howard has been endorsed by the Southern New Hampshire DSA, Progressive Victory, Citizens against AIPAC Corruption, Able Dems, and the Progressive Voters Network. While Heath Howard is behind in funding, his best path forward is in whether any larger progressive organizations or figures endorse him. The primary is in September, so there’s still plenty of time for them to do so.
#14: Congressional District 1 – Hawaii: Jarret Keohokalole Vs Ed Case Vs Della Au Belatti
We are now back to safe blue districts, featuring one of the most right wing Democrats in Congress. Ed Case has managed to keep his safe blue seat in Hawaii’s first Congressional district, despite being a constant thorn in the side of not only progressive Democrats, but even the mainstream Democratic agenda. The most prominent example of this was Ed Case joining eight other right wing Democrats to derail Joe Biden’s Build Back Better infrastructure plan, threatening to withhold their votes so that it doesn’t get passed. This, in turn, lead to it getting gutted, and having far less overall impact.
I already have had my criticisms of establishment normie Democrats, but Ed Case actively gets in the way in something that would have benefited a lot of people, which in turn may have boosted the Biden administration’s popularity, and, I dunno, stopped Trump from winning the Presidency again! And while Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema are more to blame for the Senate version, rather than their House equivalent, it still demonstrates that these DINOs are a threat that needs to be dealt with. And this is far from Ed Case’s only transgression. He has also…
- Voted against cutting the Pentagon budget by 10% in the middle of a pandemic.
- Voted to “denounce the horrors of socialism.”
- Voted for the “no bailout for sanctuary cities” act.
- Voted to block trans health care for the children of military service members.
- Voted to honor the life of Charlie Kirk.
- Was one of four Democrats to vote for requiring proof of citizenship to vote.
- Voted to repeal DC’s Sanctuary City Status.
- Voted to Censure Al Green.
- Voted to re-authorize warrant less surveillance powers for Trump.
- Violated the Stock act.
- Split the vote in a 2010 special election for Congress, which allowed the Republican candidate to win.
Anyway, Ed Case has two primary opponents, and from what I can see, they are both progressives. I don’t care which one, as long as it isn’t Ed Case, but for the love of Christ, STOP splitting the fucking vote!
#13: Congressional District 9 – Washington: Kshama Sawant Vs Adam Smith
So, for all of you hardcore lefties who complain that even the existing progressives in Congress are too far right for you, you better put your money where your mouth is and get Kshama Sawant elected. This woman is potentially the most far left Congressional candidate in recent memory to have any chance of winning, and electing her would be a Magnitude 10 political earthquake. Just to give you an idea of where Sawant is at, she’s frequently attacking Mamdani from the left, and is closely associated to tankie Nick Cruse… yeah, I’m going to be real with you all, I don’t like Kshama Sawant all that much.
The aforementioned tankie that Sawant has as her podcast cohost, he’s literally shared Nazi memes about Jews. Like, actual antisemitic shit, not some “Hasan Piker was too mean to Israel” shit. Additionally, Sawant has this habit of picking fights with everyone, which kinda makes it hard to build a unified coalition. But also, just imagine the reality where Sawant wins, and imagine how much coping and malding that the pro Israel genocide lunatic will engage in if she’s sent to Congress. I’m at the point where, after having seen so many Democrats even on the left who insist on compromise and civility with literal monsters, I just want to see someone who makes shit miserable for these people.
And also, I must clarify, she’s STILL better than an establishment Democrat, and has a history of having actually delivered for her constituents, which is probably how she can mange to raise half a million without any major endorsements. There is still a genuine chance that Sawant can win this given how Adam Smith is a serial underperformer, and because Sawant has managed to consistently win re-election to the Seattle City Council despite her polarization, AND with the establishment pouring millions into defeating her.
While Adam Smith isn’t as corrupt as some of the other Dems covered, his record does consist of voting against cutting the Pentagon budget by 10% in the middle of a pandemic, for the Patriot Act, the Iraq War, to add $100,000,000 in funding for charter schools, to repeal Glass Steagel, to honor the life of Charlie Kirk, and probably a whole bunch of other shit since this fucker has represented this seat since the 90s.
Okay, I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect to see actual antisemitic shit, and had I known this, I wouldn’t have included her, but also, I’m so fucking exhausted that I don’t feel like writing another segment just to replace this. Also it IS a list of the most important primaries, and this one can be far reaching even in a way that others on this list don’t reach.
#12: US Senate – Colorado: Julie Gonzales Vs John Hickenlooper
And we’re on to US Senate races. These next few will be about the US Senate primaries in Safe Blue states. Considering how much power is given to the US Senate, these races tend to be far more important than your typical house races. Unfortunately, given the six year terms, and the amount of institutional support that incumbent Senators have, we have yet to see an incumbent Democratic Senator get knocked off by a Justice Democrats style primary challenge. In fact, most challengers tend to barely make it off the ground even without an incumbent. It’s because of this that I’ve contemplated whether including Julie Gonzales’s longshot bid against John Hickenlooper was even worth it. I mean, it’s probably the best chance we have this cycle, for better or worse.
I’ve discussed John Hickenlooper in previous writings, so I’ll just go ahead and quote myself from six years ago…
- Some of you outside of Colorado may have heard of John Hickenlooper during the Presidential Primaries where he made a complete fool of himself by trying to argue about how healthcare and a Green New Deal are socialism and comparing Bernie Sanders to Stalin, until he dropped out because no one took him seriously and he was completely delusional to think he ever had a chance. When John Hickenlooper isn’t drinking fracking fluid or watching X-rated movies with his mom, he’s generally shilling for Republicans and insisting that we “compromise” with Republicans, which in corporate Democrat speak means work together with them to screw over regular people who aren’t billionaires or oligarchs. I could go further into detail about his record, but I want at least SOME free time to myself.
Well, it’s time to elaborate…. he watched Deep Throat with his mom… okay I should probably say more than that, but seriously, what the fuck? Anyway, Hickenlooper’s whole thing when he was Governor was that he was a moderate to win election because Colorado was a purple state, but he didn’t stop being a corporate sellout when Colorado became a solid blue state. Hickenlooper’s greatest hits include…
- Opposing the legalization of cannabis when it was controversial and vetoing a bill to authorize medical marijuana as recently as 2018, only to take credit for its legalization after it’s widely accepted.
- Frequently referring to Medicare for All and a Green New Deal as “socialism.”
- Drank fracking fluid to prove that fracking was safe, and then blocked a bill to ban fracking.
- Advocated against abolishing the filibuster and claimed he could find common ground with Mitch McConnell if elected President.
- Pretended to care about women’s rights to manufacture consent to stay in Afghanistan.
- Compared Bernie Sanders to Stalin.
- Wanted to run a joint campaign for President with John Kasich.
- Voted against economic support to undocumented immigrants during the pandemic.
- Violated the Stock Act.
- Voted to confirm Lori Chavez-DeRemer to be Secretary of Labor.
Anyway, the progressive challenger is State Senator Julie Gonzales, and she has been endorsed by Our Revolution, the Colorado Working Families Party, Sunrise Denver, and a surprising number of Colorado State legislators. While she was behind by 30 points in the only poll available, it also has Hickenlooper below 50%, which is quite weak for an incumbent Senator. Additionally, Gonzales will be at the top of the ballot due to the fact that she won at the convention.
#11: US Senate – Minnesota: Peggy Flanagan Vs Angie Craig
I’m so sick of writing this article. The redistricting bullshit has fucked over so many of the entries on this list that I’ve just given up on staying up to date. Anyway, US Senate from Minnesota. Angie Craig sucks. I have a special level of hatred for Angie Craig because she’s a lesbian, and as a lesbian myself, I loathe these sellout, assimilation queers more than anything. There is something that makes my blood boil about people like this who use their queer identity as a costume while they fuck over vulnerable people. Angie Craig’s record consists of…
- Voting against cutting the Pentagon budget by 10% in the middle of a pandemic.
- Taking $691,442 from the Israel lobby.
- Voting to “denounce the horrors of socialism.”
- Voting to censure Rashida Tlaib for being anti-genocide.
- Voting for the Laken Riley Act.
- Voting to honor the life of Charlie Kirk.
- Voting to express gratitude to ICE.
- Voting against allowing hot rotisserie chicken to be purchased by people on SNAP.
- Voting to manufacture consent for the war in Iran.
- Voting for the stupid “Save Our Gas Stoves” Act.
- Voting to condemn the Biden administration for not keeping the scary brown people out of the country.
Unlike most races included, Angie Craig has been behind in the polls since day one. Her opponent is Lt Governor Peggy Flanagan, who has repeatedly pounced on Angie Craig’s support for ICE following the disastrous raid on Minneapolis, which resulted in the murder of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. The fact that Angie Craig has the gall to ask people to elect her to the US Senate, when she repeatedly voted in favor of policies that enabled this bloodshed is nothing short of sickening. Anyway, Angie’s campaign has been so disastrous that Minnesota’s largest LGBT group endorsed Flanagan, and that a state rep who previously endorsed her rescinded that endorsement.
#10 US Senate – Massachusetts: Ed Markey Vs Seth Moulton
Tell me if you heard this one before… Ed Markey, one of the most progressive members of a US Senate, receives a primary challenge from someone on the basis of “he’s old.” The media makes this out to be about age, despite the fact that the much younger candidate is a corporate hack. Yeah, it looks like a repeat of 2020, with Seth Moulton taking the place of Joe Kennedy. Well, there is one difference, Moulton is a far bigger piece of shit than Joe Kennedy was.
Let’s start with the most obvious, this douchebag’s first instinct upon Trump winning the 2024 election was to blame trans people. You know, the one group of people next to Latinos who have the most to fear from the Trump administration. As if we don’t put up with enough, we have pricks like Seth Moulton who will kick us while we are down, and then will claim to be progressive so they can run for Senate against someone who actually is pro trans.
Moulton also pulled the whole “pretends to be anti-Israel now that its cool” thing, and has even returned $35,000 in contributions from AIPAC. Okay, but that still leaves about $65,000 in contributions from other Israel PACs such as the California Jewish Democrats, the Joint Action Committees for Political Affairs, and JStreet. And yes, I’m aware that this could also apply to Ed Markey, but he never took anything from AIPAC to begin with. Oh, and there’s also the part where he sought their endorsement before he decided to come out against them. Other marks on his record include…
- Voting against cutting the Pentagon budget by 10% in the middle of a pandemic.
- Voting against the Meat and Poultry Special Investigator Act of 2022.
- Voting to manufacture consent for the war in Iran.
- Voting to “denounce the horrors of socialism.”
- Voting to “express gratitude for ICE.”
Oh, and he kinda confessed to leaving a 5 year old boy to die in Iraq. Like, not even in some regretful, reflective way about how the horrors of war changed him for the worse, he was fucking proud of it. He brought this up while he was running for President for Christ sake! This is sickening on so many levels.
#9: Congressional District 8: Manny Rutinel Vs Shannon Bird Vs Evan Munsing
We are now moving on to our Red Vs Blue races. So you might be wondering, why are the primaries in purple seats where the nominee needs to face a Republican in the General and isn’t guaranteed victory even if they win a hard fought primary more important than winning in a blue seat where a primary win basically means the seat is there’s? Well, it’s because progressive Democrats winning in these seats undercuts the entire reason for the existence of the Blue Dogs or the “New Democratic Coalition,” that being the narrative that “being more conservative will peel off right wing voters.” This narrative isn’t only false, it’s actively manufactured as a means to enable continuous corporate pandering and corruption.
While there are some instances of Blue Dogs achieving their goal of getting elected in areas where Dems normally couldn’t win, I’d argue that this has more to do with vibes and branding than policy. Case in point, people like Colin Allred outperforming Kamala Harris, despite them roughly sharing the same policy on things like Immigration. This can also be demonstrated by the effectiveness of candidates like James Talarico and Graham Platner, which has been so effective at flipping the traditional narrative on its head, that establishment Dems have tried to re frame them both as more moderate.
Anyway, Colorado’s 8th Congressional District doesn’t fully represent this notion, as Manny Rutinel isn’t as outspokenly progressive as candidates like Bob Brooks, Randy Villegas, or William Lawrence, but he’s still progressive enough for the Israel Lobby to become concerned. Manny Rutinel was mentioned in an article on the Democratic Majority for Israel’s website, as a point of concern.
- By contrast, her chief rival in the June primary, Manny Rutinel, a progressive state representative, has condemned recent instances of antisemitism — but does not appear to have clarified his stances on key issues regarding Israel. While he has garnered endorsements from some pro-Israel House members such as Reps. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY) and Rob Menendez (D-NJ), his past record of activism has raised some concerns among pro-Israel Democrats who privately worry he will assume a hostile approach to Israel if he is elected. Republicans have indicated that they are eager to run against him in the general election. As an undergraduate at the University of Florida, for example, Rutinel attended a demonstration in 2014 that was co-organized by Students for Justice in Palestine, the extreme anti-Israel group that has recently expressed alignment with Hamas, according to a local news story covering the event at the time. The campus demonstration was “aimed to raise awareness for police brutality in Ferguson, Mo., and military oppression in Palestine,” the article noted. In a statement to JI, however, a spokesperson for Rutinel said he “has never affiliated with Students for Justice in Palestine.”

The irony of two other people being primaried who were featured on this list endorsing Rutinel. It’s part of why I have some reservations about him, but he has also campaigned with Mamdani, so he will certainly occupy the progressive lane. Polls have consistently place Rutinel in the lead, and he’s also significantly outraied his opponents, so he probably won’t have much to worry about in the primary. And electing him is necessary considering that Shannon Bird has…
- Voted with Republicans to block rent control legislation.
- Voted against a bill to create overdose prevention centers.
- Voted against an assault weapons ban.
- Voted against directing business tax breaks to low income houses.
- Voted against a bill to ban ICE from being given bed space in jails run by local governments.
- Voted against a bill increasing restrictions on local governments cooperating with ICE.
#8: Congressional District 7 – Pennsylvania: Bob Brooks Vs Lamont McClure Vs Carol Obando-Derstine Ryan Crosswell
Okay, this next race is something special, because this is set in MY home district. Just to give a bit of history, this district was represented by Susan Wild from 2018 to 2024, until she lost re-election to Republican Ryan Mackenzie. I never liked Susan Wild. She’s basically your typical establishment Democrat, and her voting record shows that. And after having voted to ban trans healthcare for military service members after having ALREADY lost re-election, she’s trying to rebrand herself as a progressive on election Twitter. Fuck her, thank God she’s not running again.
So, imagine my surprise when the leading candidate for my district is endorsed by Bernie Sanders, and is running on a progressive platform. In all honesty, this entry was initially within the top three, but there are some things about Brooks that make me a bit more cautious. The first being that he was endorsed by the Blue Dogs PAC. Granted, Brooks is also endorsed by the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the PA Working Families Party, but I’m genuinely confused by how this works. I know that Bernie Sanders has endorsed more conservative candidates simply due to the importance of their specific races.
And then there’s the whole thing about him outting Josh Shapiro for trying to convince him to endorse the Republican running against the Dem State Treasurer nominee because they criticized him, only to back off of it once the info went mainstream, and Josh Shapiro likely threatened to withdraw his nomination. Bob Brooks has apparently maintained a friendship with Shapiro, which is concerning since Josh Shapiro is a zionist scumbag, and he’s currently trying to skew the CD-3 primary against Chris Rabb. While being friends with establishment Dems can serve a more strategic purpose, as Bernie Sanders has shown, it also means that Shapiro could very well have leverage on Brooks if he does something like say, criticizes Israel.
That all being said, even with all of this in mind, Bob Brooks would still be the most progressive Dem nominee in any of PA’s Congressional Swing Districts, assuming that Lucia Simonelli doesn’t have a surprise primary win in CD-1. And having made friends with powerful people can be every bit of an advantage as it is a detriment.
As for the other candidates, well, I don’t actually dislike any of them except for Ryan Crosswell, who was literally a lifelong Republican before he changed his registration to run in this primary, who has the gall to attack Brooks for “endorsing insurrectionists,” even though I’ve been able to find no info that suggested Brooks actually DID endorse Garrity. Oh, and there’s now a Republican group trying to boost the 2nd place candidate, Lamont McClure, which tells you everything about who they want to run against.
#7: Congressional District 1 – Montana: Sam Forstag Vs Ryan Busse Vs Russ Cleveland Vs Matt Rains
So, if I had a nickel for every Union leader and firefighter running for congress in a competitive district who is endorsed by Bernie Sanders, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but this meme format is getting old. Unlike the Pennsylvania race however, Forstag does not have the lead. He is currently behind in the polls to 2024 Democratic nominee for Governor Ryan Busse. Anyway, there is nothing to suggest Busse would have a strong performance, considering thathe only managed 38% in his Gubernatorial bid, performing only slightly better than Kamala Harris. Busse was also under performed both Monica Tranel (by about roughly 2 points), and by Jon Tester (by about 4 points), so there is no electoral advantage to him being the nominee.
While there is one poll that has him outperforming Forstag against the incumbent Republican, but stuff like that often tends to happen when candidates with less name recognition are compared to those who do, and generally, Forstag just has the best vibe and the right economic populist policies to flip this district. There would be an argument against Forstag if it was someone like Jon Tester running for this district, but I just don’t think Busse has it in him to win.
#6: Congressional District 22- California: Randy Villegas Vs Jasmeet Bains
I’m so fucking tired. How do I still have six fucking entries to go in this fucking thing? What is there even for me to say? Every one of these is just going to be “based progressive who is the stronger electoral performer” Vs “Israel cock-throating ghoul.” It isn’t even just the work load at this point, it’s the knowledge that these primaries have to be competitive, and that there has to be a coin flip with each of these parasites in human skin makes it into congress.
In this case, Randy Villegas is endorsed by numerous progressive figuressuch as Bernie Sanders, Ro Khanna, and Greg Casar, as well as by the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Our Revolution, the Working Families Party, and Leaders We Deserve. Jasmeet Bains, on the other hand, is endorsed bythe Blue Dog PAC, which is to be expected because she admitted to voting for David Valadao in 2020. Jasmeet Bains also voted against Prop 50, voted against increased renter protection, voted against requiring the cleanup of oil and gas wells, voted against decriminalizing psilocybin, voted against requiring companies to disclose their carbon omissions, and skipped a vote preventing ICE agents from wearing masks to hide their face.
Anyway, the DCCC endorsed Bains, and now DMFI has dumped half a million in ads boosting her. This is probably what prompted Bains to walk back her previous statement that the massacre in Gaza is a genocide. Yeah, we can kiss this seat goodbye if Bains gets the nomination, make sure Villegas wins.
#5: Congressional District 17 – New York: Effie Phillips-Staley Vs Cait Conley Vs Beth Davidson
Notice how New York seems to be getting a lot of action here. It’s almost as if the immensely popular socialist Mayor who was just elected seems to have open to floodgates to leftist candidates as a whole. That being said, Effie Phillps-Staley’s chances are a bit steep compared to the other Red Vs Blue races, but it’s worth going for it when we have Hasan Piker campaigning for her, and Trump ranting about her in particular. Apparently Republican Mike Lawler is so concerned about her, that he tried to get her thrown off the ballot. Currently, Phillps-Staley has polled a 8%, though she takes the lead in an “informed ballot.”
Anyway, both of Effie’s opponents are Israel humpers. Is seems that DMFI has intended to boost Cait Conley if their endorsement is any indication, though she is currently trailing Beth Davidson.
#4: Congressional District 2 – Maine: Matt Dunlap Vs Joe Baldacci Vs Jordan Wood Vs Paige Loud
While Maine’s 2nd Congressional District is not held by a Republican, it may as well be. Jared Golden is retiring, so I won’t waste time going over every shitty vote, but some of the highlights include voting against impeaching Trump, voting to fund Trump’s border wall, threatening to derail Build Back Better, against holding William Barr in contempt of Congress, and against a ban on fuel price gouging at a time when gas was over $5 a gallon. That last one is why I just don’t buy the “I’m appealing to median voters” slop argument. Anyway, Jared Golden retired because he was facing a primary by State Auditor and former Secretary of State Matt Dunlap, who was also the co-chair of Bernie Sander’s Maine campaign in 2016.
Jared Golden cited “political polarization” as the reason for his retirement, and his statement sounds exactly like what you would expect from any out of touch corporate Democrat. Hell I just now found out he said in 2024 that he would be “fine” with Trump’s re-election, and accused Democrats of “pearl clutching” due to their fears of, you know, the destruction of Democracy and the descent into authoritarianism.
This is the problem with these insufferable “centrist” Democrats. They’ll frame their apologia for fascism as caring for their constituents, only to turn around and vote against a ban on fuel price gouging when gas is $5 a gallon. I don’t know whether it’s all because of them being bought out, or if they are just naturally insufferable. Hell it may even be that corporate donors look for candidates with the exact personality they can prop up as a corporate puppet. Remember that Presidential debate where Michael Bloomberg had to stop himself from saying “I bought these Democrats?” That’s him giving the game away.
The set of freshman Democrats elected in 2018 were mostly corporate puppets made to derail progressive, grassroots candidates, and to keep the party from embracing the Bernie Sanders wing. Just look at how many candidates backed by the Justice Democrats label were endorsed in 2018 compared to any other year. Meanwhile, think of how many of the most insufferable corporate Dems we know of first got elected in 2018. Elissa Slotkin, Collin Allred, Max Rose, Angie Craig, Haley Stevens, Conor Lamb, Jeff Van Drew (who became a Republican), Ben McAdams, and yes, Jared Golden as well.
So, with Jared Golden retiring, establishment Democrats are backing Joe Baldacci, who I expected to be a lot worse. Granted, Baldacci does seems to be more conservative and lass confrontational with regards to Republicans, but he seems like a massive step up from Jared Golden. The is also a genuine case regarding electability, though that is more so a long term thing since Dunlap will probably still win in a blue wave environment. That all being said, polls have had Baldacci and Dunlap at about even, with Baldacci leading in some, and Dunlap leading in some. And they seem to poll roughly the same against the Republican candidate. The fact that we’ve gone from an incumbent who voted against impeaching Trump, to potentially having a Bernie Sanders aligned candidate in this district really scores just how much public opinion has turned in our favor.
#3: Congressional District 1 – Wisconsin: Randy Bryce Vs Mitchell Berman
Remember what I said about Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan being important? Well, here’s Randy Bryce, a 2018 Justice Democrats endorsee who won the primary and lost in the General. He’s now decided to run again, and this time, the district is less red. Bryce currently has the backing of Our Revolution, Ro Khanna, and Mark Ruffalo. Currently, he hasn’t raised an impressive amount of funding, but this could change if more national figures or organizations start boosting his campaign. His main opponent seems to be Mitchell Berman who uhhh seems like a normal Democrat.
Yeah, it turns out not every election consists of establishment insiders spending millions of dollars to force some deranged ghoul on everyone. Wisconsin CD-1 seems to be under the radar of establishment Dems even though it’s only R+2, but that just means you need a charismatic candidate who can raise money without the DCCC funneling it to them. It really is a matter of this being just the right district for why it’s up this high.
So, I may as well address the elephant in the room that is Bryce’s 2018 performance. It was not good, he managed 42.3%, though there was also a 3rd party candidate that peeled off 3.1%, which means that Bryan Steil did still underperform his district’s PVI rating at the time. But the 2024 Dem candidate only performed slightly better despite the district being 3 points bluer than it was in 2018. And his 2018 performance was also the strongest that district saw than any prior, with exception to Rob Zerban in 2012. Seriously, Bryce has the same energy as candidates like Sam Forstag and Bob Brooks. The dude is nicknamed IronStache for fucks sake. Progressives need to hurry up and rally behind this guy!
#2: Congressional District 7 – Michigan: William Lawrence Vs Bridget Bink Vs Matt Maasdam
So, we had a previous entry covering one of the co-founders of Justice Democrats running, but not as many people know that one of the co-founders of the Sunrise Movement is also running. William Lawrence is currently leading the polls for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, despite the fact that his primary opponents are outraising him by millions.
Unsurprisingly, Bridget Bink, former US Ambassador to Slovakia under Trump’s first term, and ambassador to Ukraine under Biden, is receiving thousands of dollars in contributions from Israel lobby mega donors such as the Sacks lobby and Ed Satell. She also has had 179 stock trades as ambassador to Ukraine. Oh, she was also praising Donald Trump as recently as 2019, which is to be expected, she served under his administration. As for Mat Maasdam, his campaign has emphasized support of US manufacturing, but a company he co-founded heavily relied on outsourcing to China, and for brand of jeans promoted by Joe Rogan no less.
As you can see, William Lawrence’s opponents are as establishment as you can get. Willing to say all the right shit to appear like they oppose the Trump regime, but won’t do any more than “vote against the “kill everyone now” bill, while voting in favor of the shit they think most people are too stupid to notice them supporting. For fucks sake, we need people who will treat this shit with the urgency that it requires. And we need to win by running people who will, against the people who want to make things worse for everyone. I’ve run out of ways to reword this shit, but thankfully there’s only one entry left.
#1: US Senate – Michigan: Abdul El Sayed Vs Mallory McMorrow Vs Haley Stevens
Yeah, there wasn’t anything else that could take the number one spot. Flipping the US Senate is very fucking important, but electing a Bernie Sanders style progressive in a swing state, would be game changing. The floodgates have been opened, and 2026 is looking to push the progressive movement to new heights. One of the biggest signs of this has been the US Senate elections.
2018 had progressive Senate candidates, but Kerri Evelyn Harris andPaula Jean Swearengin never had a chance. 2020 had progressive Senate nominees even, but they were in deep red states where Democrats went to die. 2022 had Fetterman, who became a right wing psychopath, and Mandela Barnes, who lost because the DSCC fucked him over. And the most we got in 2024, was shitty corporate Dem Senators like Kyrsten Sinema, Bob Menendez, Tom Carper, and Ben Cardin getting replaced with less shitty but still corporate Dems like Ruben Gallego, Andy Kim, Lisa Blunt Rochester, and Angela Alsobrooks.
But 2026? We already replaced Dick Durbin with Juliana Stratton, who supports Medicare for All and abolishing ICE. And James Talarico won his primary, and is polling ahead of his Republican opponent. We have Peggy Flanegan who seems set to win her primary against corporate ghoul Angie Craig. We have Dan Osborn, who is polling 4 points ahead in fucking Nebraska! And we have Graham Platner, whose primary was originally going to be number two on this list, until his opponent, the incumbent Governor of Maine, dropped out because she had no path to the nomination. And in the process of writing this article, Abdul El Sayed was still tied in the polls for US Senate in Michigan, and I intended to say that we need to push to add him to this lineup. But guess what happened?
Abdul El Sayed, someone who was formerly a long shot candidate for Governor who lost to Gretchen Whitmer in 2018, is now the front runner for the nomination. And not only that, a recent poll has him outperforming his two opponents against the presumptive Republican nominee. And all this happened because of establishment media pear clutching about Hasan Piker.
So, that brings us to his two opponents. The first of which is AIPAC ghoul Haley Stevens, who has taken over $5 million in contributions from the Israel lobby, and was listed alongside Republican Senator Susan Collins in an AIPAC fundraising email. Haley Stevens record includes….
- Voting in favor of CORCA, which grants sweeping authority to ICE and the DHS to collect the personal information of citizens.
- Voted against cutting the Pentagon budget by 10% in the middle of a pandemic.
- Joined a Press conference to “raise concerns” about Biden re-entering the Iran deal.
- Endorsed Michael “stop and frisk, ban the big gulps” Bloomberg for President in 2020.
- Voted to “honor the life of Charlie Kirk.”
- Voted to express Gratitude for ICE.
- Voted to declare Iran the “biggest state sponsor of terrorism.”
- Signed onto a letter threatening the Columbia University into ending a pro Palestinian encampment.
Mallory McMorrow, on the other hand, initially tried to present herself as more progressive than Stevens, but over time, her true colors showed. I’m just going to go ahead and quote Track AIPAC on this one.
- McMorrow praised the “incredible expertise” of IDF soldiers after a 2023 trip to Israel with AIPAC’s nonprofit arm, the American Israel Education Foundation (AIEF).
- McMorrow says Israel is “one of the most important countries to democracy and to the world” and “it’s really hard to understand the reality of the situation if you’ve never been there and you’ve never seen it and you’ve never talked to the people directly…”
- Reporting by Jewish Insider revealed that McMorrow had written a position paper for “at least one Democratic pro-Israel group.”
- McMorrow attended an invite-only AIPAC event on May 1, 2025 featuring a right-wing propagandist who accuses journalists of being Hamas and even doubted that there was starvation in Gaza.
- McMorrow continues to support “defensive” weapons transfers to Israel funded by U.S. taxpayers.
- McMorrow privately drafted an “outstanding” AIPAC position paper, a supporter said in a leaked audio recording.
- McMorrow called Israel’s actions a genocide under duress, then immediately walked it back when it became inconvenient.
- McMorrow endorsed Jordan Acker, a vocally pro-Israel candidate, for re-election to the University of Michigan Board of Regents. This endorsement comes after years of Regent Acker persecuting anti-genocide student protestors in that very same role.
- McMorrow smeared activist Hasan Piker as an antisemite and compared him to a neo‑Nazi, offering no evidence to back up her claims, because her primary opponent Abdul El‑Sayed is hosted a campaign rally with him.
McMorrow also seems to think it’s a viable campaign strategy to call Gen Z “less cognitively capable”, and falsely accusing El Sayed of misrepresenting his medical experience, the latter of which was brought forth by Lis Smith, the same woman who worked to smear and discredit Andrew Cuomo’s rape victims. Anyway, vote for Abdul El Sayed, and make sure that Haley Stevens and Mallory McMorrow fuck off forever.
Anyway, that brings us to the end of this list. This is just a reminder that, if we want to see change, we need to fight for it. I first started writing about politics in 2019, and it’s been impressive to see how far the progressive movement has come, even if there has been a wide array of disappointment, heartbreak, and tragedy. This is your reminder to please, can it with the “voting doesn’t do anything” nonsense. Oh, and just for good measure, I will also be including a list of other noteworthy primaries that didn’t make the main article.
