Guardian Acorn

Site Progress & Personal Update: March 2021 (New Host Edition)

So I’m sure most of you may have realized, this site looks a bit different than it usually does. The reason for this is that I needed to change which WordPress host Guardian Acorn is using because the old one decided that blurred images of eroge still count as pornography and violate the rules, and that I needed to delete every eroge review I’ve posted in the past four years or else… well I don’t know what they would have done, but they probably would have took the whole fucking site down. So for a brief time, my eroge reviews were removed to avoid any action being taken, and the past few days, I’ve been working with a friend (and by that I mean she has been doing most of the work because I’m a dumb dumb who can’t understand tech to save her life) to rebuild this site on the Queerit server.

And that is still a WIP, but at least we have all of my reviews back up. And while the site design isn’t as visually appealing, at least people can use the search function without having the search text blocked by the headers now. And people can also more easily tell where hyperlinks are, so I consider that a benefit. But there is still a bunch of shit that I’m hoping we can add back. For instance, I may end up changing the site them again cause this theme is kinda bland, and I also want to re-add some features that were on the old host, but I’m not the web design expert, so I have no idea how long that will take or if it can be done.

Anyway here’s the recap of last month’s articles.

Futa Fix Dick Dine and Dash (PC): A Pleasant Surprise (Detailed Review) (NSFW)

Amazing VGM: Prince Ferdinand Themes (Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure)

Poem 129: Scared

Nukige Septic Tank: Slave Witch April (NSFW)

Quick Review: Demon King Domination (PC) (NSFW)

I was quite satisfied with the pieces put out last month. I got to test out how things would go if I posted three nukige reviews in a row, and things went pretty well. Each of these reviews were quite popular, although the reviews of Futa Fix and Slave Witch April recieved their fair bit of criticism.

The Futa Fix review attracted the attention of TERFs who basically went “LESBIANS DON’T LIKE DICK STOP FORCING YOUR AGENDA REEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!” To be fair, there were only two TERFs who responded, and this was not until four days after the piece was posted. Everyone else was willing to hear me out at least, and the review was fairly well received.

Slave Witch April seemed to strike a particular nerve in the Reddit fuckboy crowd and got more backlash outside of leftist communities. I not so subtly hinted that half of the visual novel and eroge fanbase are porn addicted incels with shit taste, so backlash is inevitable… even though it’s true.

I also was glad to finally get a piece about Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure up, even if it’s not a full blown review. There are a lot of fairly obscure games I played before I started writing reviews that I hope to revisit. Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure is certainly one of them because it has a very special place in my heart. I am also praying for a fan translation of its sequels someday.

Another game I’d like to cover is Sakura Wars: So Long My Love, which is part of another series with lots of unlocalized installments. But things are complicated by the fact that a reboot of the series was just released last year. This means I need to decide between revisiting Sakura Wars V or playing and reviewing the reboot. Also the original Sakura Taisen was fan translated, but I don’t even dare attempt Saturn emulation.

Reviews I have planned for this month include Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, Amazing Princess Sarah, 12 is Better than 6, and Beach Bounce. I also should be getting my review code for Nekopara Vol. 4 soon, so I hope to have that review in the near future.

I am in the process of playing through the shorter games in my Steam library so I can whittle down my backlog numbers. Amazing Princess Sarah, 12 is Better than 6, and Beach Bounce were all played as part of this stretch, and I also crossed Kairo and HunieCam Studio off my list as well.

Kairo I decided against reviewing because there is already an existing review that sums up my brief impressions, and It’s too boring for me to care about. HunieCam Studio I also decided against covering, but for completely different reasons. You can read my impressions in this Twitter thread.

The short version is that I genuinely don’t know whether HunieCam Studio or Slave Witch April is more misogynistic. The gameplay of HunieCam Studio was at least satisfactory, but I’d feel dirty saying anything positive about this game in a review. And keep in mind I wrote a positive review of Duke Nukem Forever.

And I know that some douche bro who played HunieCam Studio and didn’t think there was anything wrong with it is going to lecture me about how I’m just too sensitive and easily triggered, when it’s actually that they just don’t think misogyny is bad and have no critical thinking skills.

Anyway it looks like it is time for Patron shoutouts. We have a new patron this month with D Inacio, so special thanks to them for pledging. I’d also like to thank Krista, Brittany Eakin, IceTheRetroKid, blue desolation, Jimbolance, Sam, Rin Marina, Dia, and Wendy Gowak! I’ve said this before and I will say this many times after; you all are the reason this blog is possible, and I wouldn’t be here without you! Thank you all so much! If you would like to support me or my work as well, my Patreon can be found here.

Anyway I’m hoping things proceed smoothly from here on out. I was actually a bit worried when I first got that WordPress message about my eroge reviews, but I’m glad things have worked out… even if getting the new host up is a lot of work.
